What is IIE Global E³?

Global E³ is an exchange program for engineering students: a student can study abroad while continuing to pay tuition at home. With member universities in 23 countries, students at over 70 universities have the opportunity to study abroad. Global E³ exchanges about 250-300 students a year.

This is a great choice for students that want to study abroad, need to complete engineering courses while abroad, and are flexible with the destination that they go to. Global E³ is a unique program that provides UM engineering students with more choices to study abroad. Many of the member institutions in Global E³ are not open to the general UM study abroad population.

How Does Global E³ Work?

Top engineering students from Participating Institutions apply to study abroad for up to 1 year. There are several applications necessary to complete to be considered for this program. You will be working with a UM Study Abroad advisor to complete the necessary program requirements.

Program Requirements
1. Must be an engineering major of at least sophomore standing with GPA above 3.0.
2. Complete both the IIE GE³ application and UM Study Abroad application by the appropriate deadlines.
3. Be flexible with your location choices; IIE will allow you to prioritize three from the member universities above. Some partners require language proficiency.
4. Complete the partner university application by the appropriate deadline.
