Study Abroad International Photography Contest
Multiple Cities, Multiple Countries

This program is not currently accepting applications.Applications open on January 5th for Summer and Fall term programs, May 15th for Spring term programs, and November 1st for intersession, spring break and summer faculty-led programs.

Description:

Instructions:
  • The contest is open to University of Miami students who traveled internationally any time in the past calendar year.
  • The deadline for entries to be submitted is March 1st of the year AFTER travel. (i.e. People returning from travel in 2013 would apply for the 2014 contest.)

  • Entrants must upload digital photograph files as part of a complete application for entry into the contest.
  • Photos must be submitted as .jpg files of at least 300dpi in horizontal and vertical resolution.
  • Each image file must be named in the following format:
    YourFullName_Country_City or Location_Year
Painter
  • Entrants may submit up to 3 photographs for each category listed below.
    1. Landscape
    2. City Images
    3. People
    4. UM Students Abroad
    5. Photographer’s Choice (photos not included in above categories)

Lamp
  • Entries will be judged by a community of faculty and UM staff members on artistic expression, creativity, originality, and the quality of the image.
  • 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place and an indefinite number of “Director’s Selection” prizes will be awarded.
  • Winners will be announced at a special reception TBA.

  • Photograph entries must be the original work of the entrant and have been taken outside of the United States.
  • UM Study Abroad assumes that the photographer has obtained the rights and permission of those featured in all submitted photographs. UM Study Abroad is not responsible for instances in which permission has not been granted by the photographed individuals.
  • The contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries that do not conform to the stated contest rules and criteria.
  • By participating in the contest, entrants agree to abide by these terms, and it is their responsibility to ensure that they have so complied.
  • The determination of the winners will be final and binding in all matters relating to this contest.
  • Entrants agree to grant UM use of the photographs in displays both related and unrelated to the contest, as well as in printed and electronic publications which may include, but are not limited to: website display, screensaver or wallpaper entry, press releases, etc. UM retains the right to use both winning and non-winning photos for its own editorial or promotional purposes without compensation to the photographer. Photographs will not be returned to entrant.
To apply for the photo contest:Desert
  1. Click the 'Apply Now' button.
  2. Indicate that you are a UM student with a CaneID.
  3. Login using your CaneID and password.
  4. On the first page enter the primary destination and travel dates of the international trip on which you took the photos.
    • For Study Abroad participants the entry should be the primary location and dates of your recent program abroad.
    • If you took the photos on multiple trips abroad across multiple dates you may use the Multiple Locations option.
  5. Submit the photos and your descriptions using the category links available in the application.
  6. Please click on each category, indicate whether or not you would like to submit photos to the category, and upload the photos and descriptions according to the instructions found on each submission page.
