Description:
Introduction: 

The University of Mannheim, founded in 1967, is a public research university located in Mannheim, Baden- Württemberg, Germany. The university offers programs in business administration, economics, law, social sciences, humanities, mathematics, computer science and information systems. It is in the fields of economic and social sciences that University of Mannheim has repeatedly been ranked as one of the top 20 European research institutions.

As an exchange student you can choose from a wide range of courses taught in English. Exchange students must take the majority of their courses at the school in which they enroll, however they can choose one or two courses from other schools through the university-wide electives.

Mannheim Credit Equivalency:

Program Dates: 

Fall semester: September - December (Exams in December)
Spring semester: February - June (Exams in June-July)

Housing: 

Students can apply for student residences or look for a room on the private market.
 
Mannheim offers a very limited number of places in their off-campus student residences.
 
After being accepted by the university, students will receive the link and personal password for their online portal, myUniMA, along with detailed information on the private housing market.
 
Required Health Coverage:

Students from EU countries are exempt from having to purchase German health insurance if they present the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) prior to enrollment.
 
Students from non-EU countries are strongly encouraged to purchase a German statutory health insurance. You will have the opportunity to buy German health insurance prior to your arrival in Mannheim.
 
Passport Requirements:

In order to go abroad, you must have a valid passport that will not expire during your time abroad or within 6 months upon your return.  
 
Visa Requirements:

Citizens of the EU and of the EFTA do not need a student visa.
 
Citizens from the following countries do not need a student visa. They need to apply for a German residence permit at the respective Foreigners’ Registration Office in Germany: Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and USA.
 
Citizens of the following countries do not need a student visa as long as there is no intention to take up any gainful/paid employment before or after the studies: Andorra, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Monaco and San Marino.
 
Students from all other countries should obtain a visa as soon as they receive their letter of acceptance from the University of Mannheim.

Weather Mannheim is located in Germany’s warmest summer region, the “Rhine shift”. In summer, temperatures sometimes rise up to 35°C (95°F) and higher. In comparison to other regions of Germany, Mannheim has a higher humidity in summer which causes a higher heat index. Snow is rare, even in the cold months.
Traditions Schlossfest: a festival in which the Mannheim Palace campus if open to visitors, and includes arts, science and music events.
 
Schneckenhof Parties: weekly parties that usually take place Thursday’s on the quadrangle.
