The tuition rate and UM on-campus costs are sourced from http://finaid.miami.edu/cost/index.html which lists the current cost to attend UM for an academic year (fall and spring). These amounts were divided by 2 to determine the UM cost of attendance for 1 semester.
The Health Insurance rate above is half of the 2019-2020 UM student health insurance plan. Students may choose to use their personal insurance rather than purchase the UM insurance.
Please note that the expenses listed in this budget sheet are for a typical term on the program. Program related expenses will vary based on factors including but not limited to the current exchange rate, number of credits enrolled, choice of housing and meals, and individual spending habits.
Immigration - Visa: this refers to the South African student visa (Study Permit) process. This process involves completing an FBI Background check (which can take up to 14 weeks to process), gathering required documents, and lodging your entire South Africa Study Permit application in person at the appropriate South African Consulate or Embassy. As such, this line item includes estimated expenses associated with the visa process including round trip airfare to Washington D.C. in order for students to lodge their application with the South African Consulate in D.C. Please note that your country of citizenship and/or permanent address might dictate which consulate you visit to lodge your application in person resulting in an increase in your visa related expenses above the amount listed in this budget.
